This is the CD/Radio from my Subaru Forrester.

Inside is a Philips CDM-M5 4.1 CD player assembly.

The fault I have is you insert a disk, the disk goes in okay, but never spins.  After a few seconds, it says CD Error and ejects the disk.

The spindle motor is okay, apply a few volts DC and is spins.  It appears the control board is not outputting any drive voltage to the motor.

I have the service manual, but it's about as useful as a chocolate tea pot.  No circuit diagrams and no fault finding charts, just a few disassembly and re assembly instructions.

Can anyone help? either by providing a circuit or other fault finding tips, or a source for a replacement control board?

The most likely fault is the CD in switch.  They are not easy to find a replacement for but can be cleaned with alcohol and re-greased.

Thanks.

I think I've determined it's the laser pickup at fault.  When you insert a disk, the laser head moves up and down a few times looking to find focus but fails.  From what I have found that's the first thing it does, only when it's found focus will it start spinning the disk.

So the question has now become where can I get a laser head assembly for this deck?
